One
of Duke Kahanamoku's original hardwood surfboards (above)
hangs in the International Surfing Museum.
The board on the left was originally thought to be a Bob Simmons
board from a period when he was experimenting with stringers.
It turned out, however, that the board belonged to a school
teacher named Herbie Haster--the distinctive "HH" pattern
represented his initials.
To the right of that is a hardwood board such as the ancient
Hawaiians might have used.
